Before Tiger Woods came along to re-define what golf dominance is all about, the man who used to stand head and shoulders over everybody else in the world of golf was Jack Nicklaus. They called him "The Golden Bear" and his shadow loomed large over professional golf, specifically on the PGA Toiur for over two decades, from the sixties to the late-eighties. After retiring from the Tour, he then lorded it over the Champions Tour for retired golf pros, from the late-eighties to the nineties. Woods may be closing the gap fast but, for now, the Golden Bear is still widely regarded as the greatest golfer of all time.

Born in Ohio, Nicklaus attended public schools as a young child and had to overcome a mild case of polio. He started playing golf at the age of 10 and shot a score of 51 for his first nine holes, which is phenomenal for a first timer, whether adult of child. He won the Ohio Junior State title at age 12 and went on to win the same title five more times. He won the US Amateur title twice and an NCAA Championship once while he was still a student at Ohio State University.

He made his pro debut in 1962 and went on to win 18 major tournaments (three British Open Championships, four U.S. Opens, five PGA Championships, and six Masters) a record that still holds to this day, despite the recent assault of Tiger Woods on the record books. Nicklaus is only one of five golfers to win all four majors golf tournaments in their career (the "Career Grand Slam" as it is known). Someone please tell me what's wrong with my back! Is it a herniated disc?

I asked a question about limited mobility in my back yesterday that has been going on for a while. Today, I went to play golf and by the time I was to the third hole I couldn't swing without pain, putting my hands in front of me to set for golf was painful and bending over was almost impossible. Also noticable was the pain in my hip. Even riding in the cart with the bumps was possibly the most painful thing I've done. I've taken 2 muscle relaxers and 2.5 vicodin in the last 8 hours with virtually no relief. Is this a herniated disc or something else? I'm traveling and can't get to a doctor until tomorrow so I'm curious if I'm going to be worse tomorrow if I lay on my back?

My uncle is a physical therapist and for me i get this back pain occasionally after playing golf. My issue is my pelvis is not aligned (my swing sometimes throws it out). He has me do a few stretches i put downward pressure on one leg and upward pressure on the other, then i squeeze my legs together and actually after a few minutes it is back in alignment (although it is easy, you need the view of a professional). The pain at that point is decreased significantly and the next day everything is back to normal. He has mentioned to more than 50% of back pain is caused by one's pelvis being out of alignment so you just might want to ask you doctor or physical therapist. One thing to check at home is if your legs are the same length when you sit up in bed, and if you stand in front of a mirror, put your fingers on the top of your front hip bone on both sides and see if they are an equal height above the ground. If not, it is likely that your pelvis is out. Good luck.

Herniated disc sufferers have traditionally had the treatment options of medication, physical therapy, spinal injections, and/or surgery, and because of the limited effectiveness of these approaches, many simply have had to learn to live with the pain. But a new option is now available and while not appropriate or effective for every person with a herniated disc, it does represent a huge leap in effectiveness and safety in treating herniated discs.

Spinal decompression is a new form of spinal traction. Regular traction has been used for a number of years to treat herniated discs, unfortunately with poor results in many cases, and with symptom aggravation occurring in some cases. The problem with regular traction is that it activates the body's muscle guarding response and can trigger muscle spasm, which produces pain and may even result in increased pressure on herniated discs.

Spinal decompression has solved these problems though. Although still technically traction machines, true spinal decompression systems pull very slowly and gradually in order to keep the muscles relaxed and avoid triggering spasm. In addition, the more advanced of the spinal decompression systems also have computer-controlled motors and have sensors to measure the body's resistance to treatment. If the body's muscles begin to contract and resist the treatment, the system will immediately reduce its pull and the body's muscles will relax again. The most advanced of these systems can respond to what the body is doing in an amazing 1/17th of a second. Since the body's reactions take place in approximately 1/5th of a second, these advanced spinal decompression systems can modify treatment before the muscles can spasm, allowing for comfortable herniated disc relief.

This ability to avoid the body's muscle spasm response allows spinal decompression systems to dramatically lower the pressure within a herniated disc. In fact, disc pressure is actually dropped into the negative pressure range, creating a suction that pulls the bulging disc material back towards the center of the disc and away from sensitive nerves. An additional effect is that nutrients and fluid are pulled into the disc to stimulate disc healing. Over time and repeated treatments, the herniated disc material is pulled back in, and the healing of the disc provides stabilization of the outer wall of the disc to prevent further bulging.

The frequency and duration of spinal decompression treatment will vary depending on the age and condition of the patient, the severity of the herniated disc, and the number of herniated discs. Spinal decompression can be used in both the lumbar and cervical spine very effectively.

Statistically, spinal decompression with the more advanced machines, and with appropriate patient selection has a success rate of 80-90%, and of those who are successfully treated, the results hold up well long-term in most cases. Given the success rate and the fact that the most common side-effect is some temporary post-treatment muscle soreness, spinal decompression is often the best option in herniated disc treatment.

Unfortunately, there has been a tendency toward overly aggressive advertising and hype, and in some cases, inappropriate application of spinal decompression in recent years by some health care practitioners. This has led to unrealistic expectations by patients and actions by regulatory agencies on advertising claims, leading to a damaged reputation for spinal decompression. While spinal decompression does represent a major advance in the treatment of herniated discs, it is not a cure-all, it is not 100% effective, and it is not appropriate for every patient.

Spinal decompression, when used appropriately, does produce enough improvement and disc healing in the vast majority of cases to allow patients to resume normal lives and return to most activities (even playing golf or tennis and working in the yard), but it does not restore a herniated disc to 100% normal. No treatment can. Even the still-experimental disc replacement surgery does not restore the spine to a normal condition and future back problems following disc replacement are to be expected. Overwork, poor posture, or failure to use good bending and lifting techniques can set the stage for a recurrence of disc problems no matter how good the results of treatment are initially.

With appropriate patient selection and by giving patients realistic expectations, spinal decompression providers can supply a very safe and effective treatment option for those with a herniated disc.

Injured Killdeer Bird -Read Full Disc.-?

First off, I know that Killdeer birds pretend to have a broken wing when their young are in danger, this is not the case. I work at a driving range (basically a little golf course in a way) and no one was even out hitting when I saw it. It was flapping around on the ground, using its wings to move. I went out and got it with a rag and set in in a bucket with more rags and dim light. I read up, discovered the broken wing thing, and tried to release it. It wouldnt move. Picked it up with a rag and saw an injury on its leg. All the rescues and even the Department of Natural Rescourses is closed. What do I do to make it more comfortable until someone can come pick it up? What do I feed it? Help!!
Ok I looked at his injured leg, the bone has went through his leg and is cold/ assumed to be dead.

Terrestrial invertebrates, especially earthworms, grasshoppers, beetles and snails. Occasionally small vertebrates and seeds.

All objects came from something, everything has a history; and behind that is an inventor - someone who thought about the idea first. More often than not, there will be a hot debate over that subject. Many people usually think of something at the same time and would claim to have thought of it first. So who invented the Frisbee? Or should we ask who the inventors of the Frisbee are?

Frisbie Baking Company: A baking company in Bridgeport, Connecticut that made pies for many colleges in New England. College students were said to have played with empty tins for the pies and it provided the students with hours of sport and games. So college students were said to be the first ones that flung the first Frisbee. There was even a story of an undergraduate student who invented the Frisbee, Elihu Frisbie, in Yale; he was flinging a collection tray used in the chapel out into school grounds. This story is said to have happened in 1820, making the word Frisbee coined from the undergrads name instead of the baking company. But of course, some denied this to be true, saying that this can't be as the original tins for the company pies has the name 'Frisbie's Pies' embossed at the bottom; so for them, that's where the word Frisbee came from.

Walter Frederick Morrison and Warren Franscioni made a plastic version of these pie tins. He invented the Frisbee that has been used until this day. This plastic version can fly more accurately and farther than the first Frisbee. They called this plastic version, 'Pluto platter'; this was saleable and the name made more sense at that time due to the rising curiosity and fascination of Americans about UFOs. The 'Pluto platter' was a hit and that became the basic design, patented as 'Morrison Slope', of all Frisbees until this day.

Wham-O, the company that made hula-hoops popular, saw the 'Pluto platter' and talked Morrison into selling the design. They started production in 1957 and the sales soared high. After a decade, the sales for the 'Pluto platter' slowed down and Wham-O was looking for a new name to re-introduce the toy to a new market. When they heard of the original name and the term frisbie-ing, they thought to borrow the name and market the new toy as a sport.

Because of Wham-O's marketing strategy for the Frisbee, it became a popular sport game to all kids, especially to high school and college students. In 1967, a student who invented Frisbee as a recognized sport coined frisbie-ing as an Ultimate Frisbee.

So who invented the Frisbee? They all did; each giving an important contribution to the toy turned to a sports game.

Which disc golf set should I buy?

My dad has gotten into disc golf. He has two discs now, but the closest course is about 30-45 minutes away from him. I'd like to get him a set/goal that he could put up in his backyard. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these and which one might be better. Here are the two I am considering:

the sport craft disc set ( http://www.amazon.com/sportcraft-disc-go... ) would be the better of the 2 choices because you could actually use full size golf discs and it might be a bit of a challenge, the down side to it is the discs that come with the set look like junk. as for the second set it is made for mini discs (or disc markers) which wouldn't be very good practice because mini discs are tiny and don't fly very well, so i would deffinatly say no to that one. your best bet though would be to find an actual basket (like the ones you would find at a course) but the problem with that is they tend to get a little pricey. here are a couple of links for to ebay items that would be very nice but are a little higher in price but keep in mind these are also in the lower price range, you could be spending upwards of $400 for a really nice one
