There are differences between disc golf discs you should understand if you are planning to make an impact in the sport. Simply grabbing a frisbee disc and throwing it may be fun for awhile but you won't make much impression on your rivals.

A disc golf set is like your golf club set in traditional golf. Clubs for driving, approach shots, chipping and putting. In disc golf, it's no different except the tool you're using to make the shot is different.

Let's narrow the shot selection down to four. In disc golf you would need a:

- Distance driver

- Fairway driver

- Mid-range

Disc Golf Discs Set

#1. Distance drivers are like your driving woods. They are designed to extract maximum distance from your "tee-off" efforts. Just remember to gain the most distance quite often it has nothing to do with the strength of the throw but more to do with technique.

#2. Fairway drivers are often misunderstood by traditional golfers and in a sense, they are also under utilized by disc golfers. Fairway drivers are great tools when you want to get some accuracy going in your game and not only that, they will get you distance as well. If you aren't using your fairway driver disc enough then go and practice with it...it will add a new dimension to your game.

#3. Mid range discs are like your irons. They can cover a variety of distances from long to medium approach shots and are probably the most used disc in your disc bag.

#4. The putt and approach disc is like the final relay runner and it's the one that takes you home. Just like each of the above, the putt and approach is a skill all on it's own and needs to be practiced just as much as the longer hitting discs.

There are two other discs we haven't mentioned but this article is for serious players who are serious about improving their game. Specialty discs are more old school and will often be used in unique situations while recreational discs are just that - for having fun but don't underestimate their effectiveness to sharpen up your skills even when you are in fun mode.

Whereas rescue clubs are not novel (they were first produced in the 1930's in Birmingham, England), they have come into prominence just in the last few years. What are a few of the logic behind why hybrid clubs vs. long irons are a step up?

1. Club head form of the rescue golf club. Working with a lower and deeper center of gravity will permit you to hit the golf ball with higher trajectory. Tiger developer EA Tiburon believed they had the full-motion golf swing down in 2009 using the addition of the Wii MotionPlus peripheral, but with this game, they affirm they have it dialed in. Seriously now, the franchise's second bout with the MotionPlus brings a fresh dimension to your swing that gives greater results. In a curious way, it adds up the possibility of even more inconsistency to a swing without wrecking the whole experience. The series carries on to tinker around the edges, making minor improvements that are generally welcome.

In Tiger 10, the MotionPlus peripheral was primarily occupied with whether your wrists were bent or not as you hit the ball. Your wrists are still crucial, but now the game also registers your follow-through. It could be a subtle change that does not factor in all your swings, but it is most welcome for it further codifies what establishes a good technique and what that feels like. If you do not want to use the new motion you will be able to revert to the old one via the game's detailed system of assists and difficulty levels that you could mix and match, like whether you want to use the waggle-style spin. One recommended turning on is the TrueView camera, which is a first-person view the ball as you size it up and watch it (hopefully) breeze through the air. Once more, the career mode (comprising of skills challenges against pros, a PGA tour schedule, and the Ryder Cup) has been fine-tuned, this time with a more calculated approach towards attribute points and modifiers. Clubs - and not shafts or clothes - are the only item that bestows stat bonuses, and you're only granted to give one of your four attributes an impermanent stat bump prior to most challenges or tourney rounds. This approach lags the stat-jacked characters of the past, but it is also not as fun.The inclusion of the Ryder Cup is most welcome, but even though the tourney's format is mostly the same, it's a little weird that the CPU won't abide by the nationality rules (Americans vs. Europeans) that make the Cup what it is. The Ryder Cup is also online, like is last year's disc golf.
